An incomplete travel guide

Some of you might remember that a couple weeks back, I wrote a travel guide to the town of Invermere (Getting into travel guides) — apropos of nothing. Well, my guide was so popular that friend of the show Tony Kulenovic decided it would be funny if he actually unironically went to Invermere to visit the places I reviewed. Alas, his friends weren’t committed to the bit (I don’t think they’re on this newsletter, so why would they be committed in the slightest?). But the idea of an Invermere trip was the catalyst for an actual Calgary trip.

Now, I’ve never been to Calgary. In fact, I don’t think I’ve been to any province other than BC. But that’s not going to stop me from making another travel guide — this time for Calgary. [Editor’s Note: Time, in fact, kept me from making another travel guide]

Brainstorming Podcast Names

I’m just throwing some podcast names down for The Ubyssey’s weekly podcast.

• Ubyssey Weekly — incredibly basic and inoffensive

• Since 1918. Sure, it’s a little bit looting the corpse of a previous podcast, but it’s a fun name! And totally iconic for The Ubyssey. It’s like y’all’s whole brand. It’s even more fun when you put something in front of it like “My girlfriend said she’d fuck your mom since 1918.“ But I guess we don’t do that on the website anymore 😔

• In the Sheets. Like… like newspaper sheets. Get it? It’s very funny.

• Little Red Chairinghood. In honour of a very red little chair that I assume will be featured in every podcast

• U busy?. It sort of sounds like Ubyssey.

• The Vilest Rag West of Blanca. Or alternatively The Vilest Rag. It’s a fun reference to the olden days of the 1950s. I think it’s a fun name, at the very least.

• Try and Recycle Us Now, MFers. You can’t throw a podcast in the recycling bin when you see an article that makes you upsetti spaghetti!

• The Power of RSS. Podcasts are RSS feeds too! There’s no escape from greatness!

• Ubysseus. A spin on Odysseus. But Ubyssey.

Congrats being speaker of council for a day (it sounds like CK is going to continue being speaker once he’s back from Spain???). Thank you for not wearing a blue button down — I wouldn’t be able to tell you apart from Dylan.
