Stickers!

Sent from my iPhone

Hehehe we’re writing this in the back of a car on the way to a river to do some whitewater kayaking/beaching (I love it here).

I’m thinking about stickers so I’ll talk about the stickers I have on my computer I guess? It will be a short one because if I write for too long back here I get car sick which isn’t fun.

/The most notable stickers on my computer are the “I voted in Dallas County” stickers. You’ll never guess how I got these. (It was by voting in Dallas County.) I get one for each time I vote — and these are only from the elections I’ve voted in since getting this computer (I think I’ve had her for a year?). I’m one of those sluts who votes in the state comptroller primaries and the school board elections and the civil court judge number 56 elections. (Dare I say, it’s a bad idea to elect judges because it actually makes them hand out more severe sentences.) But I can’t always vote in person. Sometimes I send in a whispers mail in ballot. I know. Controversial. I don’t think Texas likes that I do that. Since the first time I did, they absolutely mangled my address (including putting I was in “United Kingdom, GB” which is, and this is true, incredibly different from “Canada,” which I wrote). Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but you can imagine my conspiracy theory about my overseas vote being suppressed. Anyways, whoever I’m home and voting, I always grab more stickers so I can reward myself when I vote from Canada :). The whole voting stickers on my computer is actual inspired by one of my all time favourite teachers — my high school history teacher Dr Bresie. She put all her voting stickers on her computer too. She’s honestly such a huge inspiration for me :). (One time, I received feedback on one of my presentations that said “the fluffy handcuffs were on point,” which I have never let her forget because it was simply a hilarious piece of feedback.) She also said she was excited for my segment on the Ubyssey’s podcast when I last spoke to her so :000000

The other I voted stickers I have less to say about. The small Elections Canada one is from voting in the provincial election. Which was honestly a wild experience. Because I checked the polling before I went because I’m a bit of a strategic voter myself (the Democrats will really make you realize that you’ve got to vote for the person who’s most likely to make things the least worst. Which is Cool and Fine). And like… my vote actually had meaning? It was only a like… 67% chance that Eby would win (at least by the time I checked). I felt so powerful! You’ve got to understand, where I’m from, you’re either packed or cracked (moreso after Friday). I just felt important and like my voice mattered.

The really big future voter sticker was from the Vancouver Munucipal By-Election. Where I waited like three and a half hours to vote in a BY ELECTION. It was honestly an incredible experience. I like… talked to the people next to me in line? And that was kinda goated. Like community is very cool. And they were all super nice. I also saw the Ubyssey’s then-visuals editor because I have keen eyes for a Ubyssey press pass, apparently. But anyways. Three and a half hours. Did NOT have a long sleeve, which really sucked since I was out there until like 10. I didn’t have dinner before so I was incredibly hungry. Someone tried to sell me chocolate out of a jar he kept in his pocket (one of the women next to me was going to go for it until the pocket jar came out). And they ran out of normal stickers so all they had were the future voter stickers (which are way too fucking big). Anyways, perhaps the best voting experience of my life. I feel like I’ve been denied the experience of long polling lines. I think I might have teared up at some point because it made me emotional (I’m weird).

There’s the Rossland BC mushroom. That’s actually where I am now! I just really like it out here. The mountains are cool. The river is cool. All the biking and the climbing and stuff is really cool. All the My Partner’s family here is really cool (hi Tom, hi Martine). I just… sigh. When I have a place here in Rossland, I’ll know that I’ve made it in life. Anyways, I got the sticker last time I came here at the kitchen store (I love kitchen stores and that’s how I know I’m an adult).

Then there’s the dice! Well, um actually 🤓👆, there’s only one, so it’s a die. I think we got this in Nelson (bigger city near Rossland). The meaning is pretty obvious (I’m a big frickin nerd).

The Arcadia sticker is also a nerd one! It’s the name of a monthly magazine that was published by MCDM. (All the articles were DnD stuff.) Arcadia was great. So so inspiring. Just so many cool ideas and dope art in there.

Y’all know the rest. Barry Bee Buzzword sticker. /u/sasamats sticker. Nobody sticker (it’s the invisible one on the top right). I’m lucky to have joke candidated with such great people.

The vomiting bee is, as you might have seen last issue, incredibly new. And it’s in honour of the brutal public torture Riley gleefully put me through during the debates. (He told me after the debates that my suffering eating honey only made him want to take more shots at Drédyn to make me eat more honey.)

Anyways those are my stickers. My phone is almost dead and I really should be getting back to the dinner we’re at.

Until Wednesday at 10:03 pm, buzz on, my busy bees!
