Let's Decide Which AMS Committee Arcane Characters Would Be On

This is a normal thing to think about. Everyone I walk past on the street thinks about this type of thing, right?

We’re back for an exciting newsletter, everyone. Today has been pretty busy, and once again I have no idea what my main story is, so… you’ll find out same as me.

Arcane Characters into AMS Committees

I dunno, I just wanted something easy today. And I’ve got to make sure the email is vaguely AMS related so it’s worth Riley Huntley’s time to read it. So I’m going to assign the characters from Arcane to different AMS committees. Yeah, I know, the show ended months ago. And no, we really don’t need to talk about whether or not I’m still reading Violyn fan fiction.

ANYWAYS, to review (for those of you who still have joy in your lives) here are the AMS committees and a vague overview of what they do (descriptions from the AMS website):

  • Advocacy Committee. Advises the VP External and VP AUA about advocacy to the University, government, and other organizations.

  • Executive Committee. Made up of five AMS executives, this committee provides recommendations and direction to AMS Council.

  • Finance Committee. This committee helps create the AMS budget and oversees AMS funds.

  • Governance Committee. Conducts governance reviews of the Society when needed and regularly reviews the AMS Code and Bylaws.

  • HR Committee. Advises on the hiring of certain AMS officials and approves job descriptions for others.

  • Operations Committee. Oversees all the AMS clubs. Also in charge of bookings and space allocation in the Nest.

  • Student Life Committee. Promotes school spirit, coordinates events, and increases student engagement with the AMS.

  • AMS Advisory Board. Provides the Executive Committee with advice and recommendations concerning the strategic direction and operations of the AMS.

  • President’s Council. Facilitates cooperation between the Constituencies, and between the Constituencies and the central AMS.

I’m not including the subcommittees because I don’t want to and this is my newsletter. Also, there will be spoilers below! But if you haven’t watched Arcane yet like… what are you doing?????? I think it will count among the best animated shows ever made. Go watch it like right fucking now.

  • Ambessa (AMS Advisory Board). She never literally held a position of power in Piltover, but was there advising those in power, manipulating them to her own end.

  • Benzo (Finance Committee). Ran a little shop. Did a bunch of haggling. That’s pretty finance.

  • Caitlyn (Executive Committee). “I am a decorated officer. Leader of House Kiramman. Address me with respect, or keep your mouth shut”

  • Cassandra (Governance Committee). She’s just got the collected vibe of someone deep in the third governance review of the season.

  • Claggor (Governance Committee). I feel like Claggor would really care about making sure all the code and whatnot is consistent, but also make sure it’s fair to the people.

  • Ekko (Student Life Committee). I feel like the fire lights would have had great parties.

  • Elora (Finance Committee). This woman has so many spreadsheets and you know it.

  • Grayson (President’s Committee). She’s just out here trying to bend the ear of anyone she can to do the best she can for both cities.

  • Isha (Advocacy Committee). Idk she’s a kid. Well, she’s dead. But she was a kid.

  • Jayce (Operations Committee). Besties schtick was making cool hextech infrastructure for the city. And some cool hex tech for the lesbians, but we don’t have to talk about that here.

  • Jinx (Proposes a referendum to add 99 seats in an attempt to destroy the AMS). She’s just a quirky lil anarchist who’d want to tear the whole thing down.

  • Loris aka Door Guy (HR Committee). Honestly, he’s such a sweet heart. He’d be there for all the right reasons.

  • Maddie (HR Committee). She slept with her boss. Enough said.

  • Marcus (Operations Committee). He does what Silco needs done (in a corrupt way). If there were a Spineless Lackey Committee, he’d go there.

  • Mel (Governance Committee). She seems like the type to weave in some tricky clauses into a bylaw referendum or something.

  • Mylo (Student Life Committee). Tbh, the only one that would accept him.

  • Rictus (President’s Council). The right hand and trusted advisor to Ambessa.

  • Salo (Advocacy Committee). He doesn’t seem like he’d do anything himself. Would definitely prefer just to say “do this thing” to someone else.

  • Scar (Finance Committee). I feel like he’s the one who really keeps the Firelights going and makes sure they have all the resources they need.

  • Sevika (Operations Committee). Always doing runs and taking care of problems for Silco.

  • Silco (Executive Committee). This man is so in charge and so in control (until it goes to shit).

  • Singed (AMS Advisory Board). But like… always advising pretty evil shit for his own purposes.

  • Sky (HR Committee). She just has the vibes, man. Like she gives HR.

  • Smeech aka Rat Man (HR Committee). As in he’s had 27 HR complaints made about him.

  • Steb aka Fish Cop (HR Committee). I think this is best summed up by Steb’s most memorable (and only) line in the show: “let’s run.” He’s making sure that his crew is taken care of.

  • Vander (President’s Council). Kinda like the leader of the undercity, and was consulted with about some things.

  • Vi (AMS Advisory Board). Advising her lesbian dictator/councillor wifey like a cute lil fantastic-feeling sapphic. Also I feel like by the end of the show, she’s not really in a spot mentally to be super active anywhere, so just a little bit of advising feels appropriate for what she’d be up for.

  • Victor (Operations Committee). He’s in there with his boyfriend. He comes up with 75% of their ideas, but his boyfriend takes credit for all of them.

Maybe this was a little unhinged, but it was a fun one. Hope y’all enjoyed :p. If you disagreed with anything, feel free to leave a comment or reply to the email. Or go crash out on Reddit, that’d be pretty funny.

Kinda Reddit

I wasn’t on r/ubc at all today (thank god), but I did briefly step into r/pathfinder2e because I do, in fact, hate myself. So enjoy the first post I saw: an incomplete flowchart to visualize the logic of making a single attack with a weapon. This flowchart is a joke, but I have seen serious Pathfinder 2e flowcharts that are, in fact, more intense.

DO YOU SEE WHY Pathfinder 2e Doesn't Yum My Yuck Anymore. This is just ONE ATTACK

Should I Even Be President

The Kissable Ubyssey published a Buzzfeed-style quiz (looks like the AMS ex-presidential crash out was right!) proclaiming to determine what AMS executive position matches your personality. I got VP Finance. Does this mean… I should drop out of the Presidential race???? No, I don’t think so. I’ll just throw pens at the VP Finance until they resign, then take over the position myself.

I’m gonna be honest… VP Finance is the worst VP position. And I think I’d be very bad at it. Sam Low fix your quiz.

Posters and Stickers

I finally got things from the printer, so I was able to spend the day postering up campus. It turns out, 150 posters is a lot of fucking posters. But I had 3 different designs and the minimum order was 50 each so…

Anyways, they’re about. Not everywhere because… ummmm… I’m a joke candidate and I don’t care enough to poster your tiny ass nerd building. But they’re a lot of places! See them before they’re gone. I’ll probably take them down Friday afternoon before voting closes because I’m not about waking up early Saturday morning to take down posters.

Also, I’ve got stickers now! I’ll be carrying them around with me all the time (as well as honey sticks to give out). If you want either, hit me up and I’ll try to get them to you Thursday/Friday.

The Ubyssey’s New Columns Slap

Yesterday, The Ubyssey released the first article of two new columns, and I enjoyed them. Maybe you will too!

That’s All!

That’s it for me today. Hope y’all enjoyed. It got a little bit fruity for a second there in the Main Story, but I think we managed to keep it from becoming gay gay, thank god.

I think there’s an AMS Council meeting tomorrow night, so maybe my main story will just be… taking notes on that. Gotta make sure Riley feels like these newsletters are worth his time :D. Or maybe it’ll be something else. Who knows? I certainly don’t!

Until tomorrow at 10:03 pm, buzz on, my busy bees!
