I've been off grid all day. Here's what's happening.

A mainstay of this newsletter really is reviewing things that haven't happened yet.

Hey y’all! Right now I’m out camping up at Monica Meadows. I don’t actually have any service right now, but that won’t stop me from updating the loyal followers of the Twice-Weekly Daily Nightly Buzz!

Our day started by sleeping. And then waking up. My partner’s father made a really great breakfast before we headed out at like… 8:30. Driving to the trailhead, my partner, my partner’s sister’s boyfriend, and I were all in a car together, alongside my partner’s grandfather. Who is an absolute beast. But the drive was very fun :D. I like Tom and to use a phrase my boyfriend has used before: the two of us are like a bit particle accelerator. Things just escalate quickly and it’s so fun. And my partner’s grandfather is really nice and cool, and getting to hear about everything he’s done is always incredible.

Starting the hike was a littttttlllleeeeee bit rough. I took a fair bit of supplies in my backpack (my partner was carrying our sleeping bag, so space wise it had to be me), so my backpack was a little bit of a heavy guy. That plus borrowing hiking boots plus switchbacks were absolutely brutal. I actually meant to train for this trip by doing a bunch of running and hills back in Vancouver but then, uh. I didn’t.

Adding insult to injury, my partner’s grandfather is an absolute unit. This man is 87 and is actually a million times more fit than I am. Let’s be clear, I was holding the group back way more than he has. This man literally went rock climbing outdoors with us last year. Like… actually such aging goals. He’s incredible I love him.

Anyways, the hike up was really beautiful. Humbling, but beautiful. Last year, we went canoe camping which is… definitely chiller, I’d say. But I do love a good hike. Trees make brain happy. Touching grass goes so hard y’all.

We also had some snacks! My partner and I got a spicy edamame/almond/something else mix at the store because my partner’s sister’s boyfriend got it and it was actually better than I thought it was. Even though I know I’m not allergic to almonds, eating them still kinda freaks me out because of the rest of my nut allergies. But they were good! I just only eat every third almond I come across.

Once we got up to the camping spot, the four of us (me, partner, partner’s sister, partner’s sister’s boyfriend) set up our little tent. Suffice it to say, a couple people were annoyed at me and my partner’s sister’s boyfriend. Which I think was completely unfounded we definitely aren’t annoying in the slightest ever.

We chilled a bit in the afternoon. Explored the area a bit. Played some cards (I got absolutely scammed I definitely should have won one of the games but THEY DIDNT EXPLAIN ALL OF THE RULES). I also got like halfway through Henry IV, Part 1, which is a play I need to read by Wednesday because Shakespeare final. Not at all anxious about there being like 14 hours from when I get back on grid to when my final starts. Not anxious in the slightest. Anyways, it’s really interesting reading Henry IV after watching The Prince because I think that context is really shaping how I am framing the characters (especially in regard to gender, societal expectation). I also brought a little notebook and am doing some journaling/doodling. It’s really relaxing y’all. I’ve got to get out among trees and put pencil to paper more often.

We also made some dinner because a girl has to eat. It was like… leek soup and onion soup. Which like honestly was pretty good. I haven’t had packet soup before I think (at least not knowingly) and it kinda slapped? Maybe that’s just the being in the woods speaking. But I liked it! It masked the lake water flavour. Also it was sooooooo fast. Like actually thirty times faster than it normally takes me to make dinner. (Granted, I’m not good at cooking so I serialize all the cooking tasks and do them slowly.)

After sunset (absolutely beautiful, might I add), we mostly headed to the tents. Eepy guys after hiking and all. It’s very chaotic in here. My partner’s sister’s boyfriend and I are being goobers. There are also sooooo many mosquitos in here. Like…. I think I’ve slapped a dozen of them in the time it took to write this newsletter. Anyways, I’m gonna sleep! Eepy guy, plus the sun will rise early :p. And I don’t have a phone or computer to keep me up!!!!

A book, for no reason

There were others in this series that we found, but I thought I’d share this specific one for no reason. (If you don’t know immediately, there’s like 0% chance you’ll figure it out. Don’t even try)

Woof

YIKESSSSS

Vandalism is bad but what if I went back and wrote “punch nazis” beside this? Surely that’s actually better than not vandalizing and letting nazi shit stay up uncontested, right?

I actually fucking hate nazis and nazi shit (believe it or not). I hope whoever wrote this shit has the experience of jacking off with barbed wire wrapped around their hands.

This was at the end of a very cool and fun pedestrian bridge across the Columbia River though. So that’s nice and fun :).

From the Archive

I don’t remember if I’ve included this before, but uhhhh… in the interest of being childish, say Mike Hunt’s name three times fast.

That’s All!

I hope y’all enjoyed this one! I’m actually writing it the night before we head out to go backpacking. So cross your fingers everything goes well. It’d be really unfortunate if we had to medevac someone out or something.

Also! I got my Shakespeare essay in! It honestly didn’t turn out that miserable I think. Which is nice. A big W. Most of the peer feedback I got on the draft last week was useless because it was basically just like “the thesis is perfect, all of the body paragraphs are perfect, the quotations are all perfect” and it’s just like…. you and I can both read we know that’s not true. At least one of those paragraphs was like… three sentences long — and mostly quotation. But the feedback from the person on this newsletter was nice and actually helpful :).

Anyways, wish me luck on my Shakespeare final. I’m doing like 0 studying for it. Also if something goes terribly wrong while backpacking I’m gonna miss it 🫠 . So manifest that not happening.

I hope life is good for all of y’all. I really hope that my representative in the Texas House doesn’t get removed from office or arrested while I’m gone.

Until Wednesday at 10:03 pm, buzz on, my busy bees!
