I think this is… the forty-fourth newsletter? Which is simply so much newsletter action. I do wonder how much longer we’ll last at this pace — at some point it may drop down to weekly/biweekly/whenever I want. I do in fact enjoy the idea of not just whipping these out in like thirty minutes and instead taking enough time to make something reasonably high quality. I also am so running out of ideas 😭. I’ve run out of basically anything vaguely interesting about me. That’s why I’m writing this right now — I don’t have a main story idea. Maybe main stories just don’t happen often? I dunno. Considerations for a future point in time.

I think maybe this newsletter won’t have a main story. Mostly because I’ve got to have at least three podcast scripts done by tomorrow (and hopefully more like 4-5), so I’m gonna go work on that. Also, Elena: I’m naming my segment Since 1918 — at least in my head.

(Also, being sick did get worse in the hours since I wrote the above, so definitely no main story today. I’m just a little guy lying in bed and occasionally braving standing up to get water/tea/popsicle. It’s very mean my partner used up the last of our cold and flu meds, but the box was still in our cabinet and had not one, not two, but TWELVE empty little capsules. Also yes medicine nerds, I know that the primary ingredient is acetaminophen so I could just pop a Tylenol and it’d be mostly the same. But bright orange and blue are fun colours! And I’m sure the food dye totally helps. My toxic trait is I love to tough things out without medicine — but I’m all about vaccines, obviously — so I probably wouldn’t have taken them anyways. Wow, I really yapped. This is sick Quyen brain just going at it, huh? Is this lucidity like… what drugs are like? Now that I’ve written it, that’s an incredibly dumb question. But I’m like a platinum star sober so shrug. Okay I’m really going to stop now.)

Layout Again

I redid the layout for Class Retainers. It took like 2 hours to format the template and adjust the text styles and whatnot then 3 hours to redo everything but I think it’s way better.

I think that the icons are nice now. And the tiers having different shading looks a lot cleaner. And the whole section at the top looks way better. Did I have to do unspeakable things to tables and merging cells and whatnot to get this to work? Yes, yes I did. It made me sad — but it looks good :).

I’m also working on another layout thing

Also for Draw Steel because I’m a massive loser nerd.

Basically, the dream is you can format whatever draw steel thing you’re making as a markdown file — which is basically just a text file with some very simple indication for like… headers and bolded text and whatnot. Then you can run the little thing and have a fully formatted PDF. Truly none of you nerds will use/care about this though. Tough, it’s my newsletter you have to see it.

Someone say “Quyen, the way you must have gone into affinity designer to make the horizontal rule and the power roll tier icons is really cool. It must have taken extreme talent to create vector graphics with as many as nine (9) nodes!” (vectors are scary, okay? It took a lot of bravery.)

I will say, figuring out what to do about this fills me with dread. That’s gotta be at least ten nodes!

I think we all should start using it in our daily life.

It’s a portmanteau of cuck and luddite. To be used for people who are opposed to new technologies because they’ve been cucked by them. Context: AI girlfriends (link from Sam’s mastodon)

Ubyssey gay issue

It’s out now. Very exciting times. The gays are the best.

I can’t believe even The Ubyssey is getting on the “call Quyen a lesbian” train (according to this article, iced chais are lesbian behaviour). This is so mean.

(This article also didn’t actually help. Is he gay? Asking for some friends but also my partner and one of my partner’s friends and myself. We’re just curious.)

We’ve got a bendu

There will be Bendu cards at this Wednesday’s AMS Council meeting. Get excited. If you’re boring and not going to an AMS Council meeting this Wednesday, I’ll include an image of my bendu card for y’all :).

I’m tempted to make a website version of council bendu (a la https://ubussy.ca/games/bingo), but I don’t have time at this very moment (podcast scripts + being sick :D). Maybe I’ll put one together before the next two council meetings (I’m gonna be out of town for both of them :(((((((((((((. )

Aight, I’m gonna go write some podcast action and/or lie in bed being sick. Also, I think it’s maybe like… video podcast action (like the ol’ Who Is? with Ross Oteri featuring Drédyn Fontana podcast. The Ubyssey has a very fun set, so I simply have to assume it’ll be filmed), so like… do I need to put together four outfits for filming day? I’m not that good at clothes 😭. But also if it’s going to be ✨public on the internet✨, I want to pretend that I don’t wear the same clothes every day.

My computer networking final actually went really well???? The author of the textbook made a bunch of videos and they were straight up just way better than the lectures? So I just did that. Plus, I think the final was easier than the other quizzes. So… we stay winning? Big.
